Welcome to Swindon Music Service

Swindon Music Service is a not-for-profit Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) formed in 2019.  Prior  to this, the music service was a long-standing department within the Local Authority’s Children Services.

Its mainly funded through the Department for Education (DfE) grant, which is managed through the Arts Council England (ACE).  This grant is offered to create a mixed economy approach to our work through the National Plan for Music Education.

Swindon Music Service is a Consortium member for the new, larger music hub for Gloucestershire, Swindon & Wiltshire (GSW Music Hub).  Within the Consortium, Swindon Music Service is the strategic lead and delivery coordinator for Swindon & Wiltshire.   You can see our website and what on offer across Swindon & Wiltshire here: Hub Website

As a charity we also have a fundraising strategy to allow organisations and individuals to donate to our cause.  The fundraising strategy has been developed to support children and young people access musical opportunities where finance would/could be a barrier. Fundraising


Meet the team

 

 

 

Peter Clark (CEO Swindon Music Service and Head of Make Music Swindon Hub)

As the CEO, Peter is responsible for the strategic leadership of Swindon Music Service and the development of effective and sustainable partnerships with a range of providers for the benefit of children and young people in Swindon.

Peter has over 18 years’ experience leading and teaching music in a range of contexts, including instrumental provision in schools, local authority music services & community organisations.

Peter has developed strategies and resources for the teaching and learning of music, which combine the very best of current pedagogical methods to keep children motivated whilst making sound progress from the start.

Peter has a master’s degree in music, is an Associate of the Royal College of Music (ARCM) and holds management post graduate diplomas.

Peter enjoys going to the theatre, and eating out at nice restaurants.

Lynn Hawkins (Deputy Head of Service)

As the deputy head of service for Swindon Music Service, Lynn is supporting schools, with music support services.

Lynn also develops, delivers and coordinates the Early Years programmes for  pre-school and primary school settings within the borough.  This is done with the offer of in class training and a series of EY festivals hosted and promoted by Lynn.  In addition to this, Lynn heads the out of school music ensembles provision for the Music Service and develops new and exciting opportunities for CYP to participate in a wide range of musical activities.

Lynn has taught singing for over 30 years, additionally, Lynn has a depth of knowledge in early years music delivery.  With a Master’s Degree in Early Years Music Education, BA Hons in EY Education, BSc in EY Education along with qualifications in ABRSM Music and management qualifications Lynn is able to cover a wide range of skills within the music service from finance to classroom delivery.

Lynn Enjoys all musical genres and spending quality time with her family.

Val Weston (Schools Outreach Officer, Inclusion lead, schools music curriculum support officer)

Summer Scotford (Business Administrative  Assistant)

Summer has grown up with Swindon Young Musicians as she joined Lynn’s choir when she was 8 years old and also did our Tuesday Night Rock School. During this time, Summer was awarded the ‘Young Leadership’ award and assisted with running the Rock Pod class on a Saturday morning. As Summer got older, she became our Admin Assistant and assisted with running the front desk. From this, Summer has done an apprenticeship qualification through Swindon Music Service, in ‘Business Administration Level 3’ and is now our Business Administrator Officer. Summer has also done graded exams in Piano and Singing.

Summer enjoys Musical theatre, baking and hunting for nice gluten free food.
